Angel of the Month

Photograph by Rosemary Flannery
Author of Angels of Paris - An Architectural Tour through the History of Paris

A duo of baby angels welcomes visitors with springtime blossoms over the entrance door of a residential building designed by architect Constant Lemaire. The gallant boy angel carries a wicker basket laden with roses, daffodils, peonies, daisies, lilacs and zinnias, so that his sweet girl companion angel, coiffed in a chignon dotted with posies, can fetch yet more flowers for their trove. Louis Hollweck sculpted the delightful scene with its curvy, organic forms typical of the Art Nouveau style, in 1904.

Location: 82, rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs  (Metro: Notre-Dame-des-Champs).
