Angel of the Month

Author of Angels of Paris - An Architectural Tour through the History of Paris

Perched in the niche of a beautiful 18th-century fountain, Edmé Bourchardon’s marble angel smiles gently as a playful ram nips at his wrist.  Commissioned by Louis XV to design a large-scale fountain to supply water to 7th arrondissement aristocrats, Bouchardon created four angels to represent the seasons.  This teenage angel is draped with a banner of roses, while the ram refers to Aries, first astrological sign in the zodiac, symbolizing spring.
