Molière, the great 17th century actor and playwright, is the first citizen to have a monument dedicated to him in Paris.  Designed by architect Louis Visconti in 1844, it features Molière in bronze, enthroned atop a fountain.  Above the sculpture, James Pradier chiseled a pudgy angel holding laurel wreaths, a tribute to Moliere’s work and fame.   The fountain is located at the corner of rue Moliere and rue de Richelieu, in the 1st arrondissement (metro: Pyramides or Palais Royal).
