Portraits of Josephine

Josephine Baker is an inexhaustible subject for anyone interested in black Paris.

I recently found a Website (in French) that has an entire page devoted to Josephine as philanthropist.  It presents many instances of her philanthropic activity of which I was not previously aware.

One of these is Josephine's support of a food drive for elderly people in Montmartre in 1935 and 1936.

The entire site is filled with extraordinary photos of Josephine that I have never seen anywhere else!

In searching for copyright information about these photos, I turned to Wikimedia Commons.  While I didn't find what I was looking for, I did find dozens of additional photos of Josephine that I'd never seen before.  Several of them are portraits or close-ups of her taken during interviews or other photo opportunities.

I'm sharing a few of these images here for your enjoyment.
