May 2000 - The Champs-Elysées - Quintessential Paris

On a rare sunny day in early spring, my colleague and I decided to take a ride on “La Roue de Paris”, the huge Ferris wheel that sits at the end of the Tuileries garden at Place de la Concorde. Roughly 60 meters (197 feet) in height, it was the star attraction of the 21 wheels erected on the Champs-Elysées for Paris’ millenium celebration. There are a few concession stands at the base of the wheel, and the lovely aroma of golden brown gaufres (Belgian waffles) permeated the air.
